An asylum seeker is a person who has fled persecution in their home country and applies for asylum status from the safety of the United States. The asylum legal process typically lasts between 3-6 years. Many asylum seekers arrive with children and nearly all have suffered physical and/or mental harm in their home country.

Our clients were individually persecuted in their country of origin because of their desire to have the same rights and freedoms Americans enjoy: democratic governance, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and the press, the right to assemble, and the right to petition the government among others. Many of our clients are advocates for the rights of women, ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ people.
